A Word on the Standby Power Systems Market:  

Power outages are becoming more frequent and are lasting longer.  There are two major reasons for this trend.  First, severe weather patterns such as thunderstorms, hurricanes, flood and ice storms have increased dramatically over the past few years and are expected to continue at current or even greater levels for the foreseeable future.

In addition, the demand for electricity is increasing at an unprecedented rate and power companies are not able to replace aging transmission networks and build new plants fast enough to keep pace with the growing need.

For a small to mid-sized business, being without power for just a few hours can mean thousands of dollars in lost revenue, spoiled refrigerated goods, Lost computer records or research data, etc.  But the non-monetary costs are also important considerations.  How much is it worth to be the only gas station, pharmacy, restaurant or grocery store in the area that is open during an extended outage?  According to a survey published by Emerson, a global leader in reliable power technologies for large businesses:

• There are more than 6 million small businesses in the U.S.

• 80_ of small businesses experienced at least one power outage in the last year.

• Of those, 29_ were without power for at least 8 hours and 19_ were without power for at least 16 hours during a single outage.

• 62_ had no backup power system

• 58_ would consider buying a standby power system if it made economic sense.
